NEW GOVERNMENT LAWS
Much to my surprise and joy, I’ve found out that I’ll be receiving a side order of government approved education to go along with my main course of bankruptcy. Apparently there were a bunch of changes made to the bankruptcy laws that went into effect over the last few years. I’m not one hundred percent certain, but I’m supposing these changes were implemented to prevent multiple bankruptcies from individuals, because now before filing, all individuals under the giant thumb of personal debt must undergo a government approved credit counseling program to show them how they ended up where they currently are financially. And, as if that weren’t enough, after the bankruptcy proceedings are over, but before the debt is officially discharged, you must go through a government approved financial management education program to teach you how to not end up back in the hole you just crawled out of. I suppose it seems like a logical way to prevent future bankruptcies, but I’ve got to tell you, I’m not the least bit excited about it. Then again, if I were overly excited about it, it may not prevent me from filing for bankruptcy again somewhere down the line if I fall on hard times again.
